THE daughter of a hit-and-run victim is calling for witnesses to come forward to catch the driver who struck her mum.
The retired woman from Heyside — who does not want to be identified — remains in hospital with broken ribs and a collapsed lung following the collision outside Royton and Crompton School.
The 60-year-old was walking home from her daughter’s house after presenting her grandson with a knitted scarf she had created, at around 8.10pm on Monday evening.
She was clipped by the vehicle while crossing at the school’s bus turning circle, off Blackshaw Lane, Royton.
It is believed the driver sped off without stopping before performing a u-turn and heading off in the direction of Heyside.
The victim’s daughter said: “It is just so frustrating that someone who has done this can’t even stop.
“The driver must have realised what happened when they completely turned back on themselves.
“Someone must have seen what had happened. It is well lit at night, as football is played in the school grounds.”
The mother-of-two was helped to her near-by home shortly after the incident by a good Samaritan, when an ambulance was then called.
She suffered swelling to her neck, three broken ribs and one of her lungs has deflated by 75 per cent.
She said: “My mother wants to thank the man who helped her — we only know him by the name, Peter.”
Police are looking for witnesses and describe the car as being red. A police spokesman said: “Inquiries into the incident are ongoing.”
