A BODY found at Crime Lake has been identified as missing man Stanley Taylor.
The grim discovery brings to an end a two-month search for the 54-year-old from Limeside who had been declared missing from his home since January.
A park ranger at the beauty spot at Daisy Nook Country Park called police to inform them of a possible sighting of a body in the lake at 1.15pm on Friday.
An underwater search team recovered Mr Taylor’s fully-clothed from the lake at 4.15pm.
Police say they are not treating the death as suspicious and have passed the case on to Oldham’s Coroner.
The Chronicle previously reported how Mr Taylor (54) had last been seen on Monday, January 9, walking to his local shop and was reported missing to police on Saturday, January 14.
Friends had been concerned that he had not made contact and urged him to phone to let them know he was OK. He was often seen walking his dog around Daisy Nook.
Det Insp Dave Massey said: “We have been searching for Mr Taylor for two months and it was always felt he was still in Oldham.
“At this stage there is no indication of any third party involvement in these tragic circumstances.”
