Steve Hill.
SHAW deputy head, Steve Hill, has been chosen as a teaching ambassador to encourage people to join the profession.
The St Joseph’s Primary School teacher will fly the flag for teaching across the nation, drawing on his limitless enthusiasm for the job to urge people to follow in his footsteps.
Mr Hill was headhunted by the National Training and Development Agency for a new campaign to promote and raise the profile of the teaching profession.
The teacher, who is a favourite with his Year 6 pupils for the outdoor challenges and opportunities he sets for them, jumped at the chance.
He said: “I’m very honoured to be asked to help raise the profile of a profession I love.
“To be able to help inspire, instil confidence and enable children to develop themselves both academically and physically and to go on and achieve their full potential is something very special.”
Mr Hill is also keen to help boost the number of men entering the teaching profession, particularly in primary schools, where, he said, there was a “massive shortage.”
Mr Hill came to the notice of the agency as a National Teaching Award winner, and later through his work as a judge for the awards.
