More road closures heading your way

MOTORISTS can expect more traffic chaos in Oldham town centre as Metrolink work demands more road closures.
Transport for Greater Manchester bosses are planning to shut the junction of Huddersfield Road with Mumps roundabout for up to four weeks from Tuesday. Traffic approaching Oldham from Huddersfield Road will be diverted to Cross Street and Lees Road, and on to Oldham Way.
Drivers are currently weaving around sections of Union Street after the road accessed from Peter Street was closed for around eight weeks. TFGM admit this area could remain closed in order for contractors to carry out track works at the junction.
Next month, King Street will be closed for around eight weeks to the north of its Union Street junction to construct tram tracks.
Access to Union Street West and George Street will be maintained during this time.
Around the same time, Waterloo Street will be shut for around 13 weeks at the Union Street junction to enable construction of waste-water access chambers.
Construction will begin on the Oldham Central Metrolink stop in mid-June, causing the closure of Union Street between Peter Street and Clegg Street. This area will only be open to pedestrians and trams after completion.
