AN Oldham clothing store has been saved from closure, safeguarding eight jobs in Spindles and Town Square Shopping Centre.

Bon Marche was due to close after owners The Peacock Group was put in administration in January.

But a buyer has now been found for the business and the retailer is set to make a bigger and better come back later this month.

A management statement said “As you are aware, this store was unfortunately due to close down in the near future.

“However, after intense negotiations with the landlord we are delighted to announce that this store will remain open.”

Manager Ginny Cotton said: “All the staff are delighted and the customers have been absolutely fabulous — they even did a petition to keep us open and got around 600 signatures.”

Following a sale of current stock the store is set to close on March 24 and reopen on March 28 with a relaunch and brand new spring/summer range.

Peacocks is also set to remain in Spindles after another buyer was found to take on the clothing retailer, saving 11 jobs.

TWO new outlets are due to open up in Spindles and Town Square Shopping Centre next week.
Subway is set to expand into the centre, alongside its High Street fast-food premises — and Carole’s Crafts has also taken up a unit.

Centre manager Mike Flanagan welcomed the new tenants and said it showed a growing confidence in Oldham town centre.

“It’s very pleasing that these new tenants are coming into the centre,” he said. “It’s particularly pleasing Subway are expanding in the town. It shows confidence is still there in the town and Spindles in particular.”
