Yanks for the memories
Date published: 13 March 2012
A FLASH new website will drum up support for this year’s Yanks weekend as well as fondly charting the event’s history.
The site — at www.ww2events.co.uk — has been created by organisers to rev up interest in this year’s festival, due to be held from August 10-12.
Poignant wartime broadcasts echo in the background as visitors log on to the web page which boasts an extensive gallery of 2,000 pictures from the past decade.
The site will provide visitors with links to businesses within the borough and accommodation for those wanting to immerse themselves in the wartime weekend.
Those logging on will also be able to upload their own photos, with organisers particular interested to showcase pictures from when the movie “Yanks” was filmed in Saddleworth.
