Apprentice scheme to get Oldham working
Date published: 14 March 2012
Oldham Council and its partners are launching a unique “300 in 100” campaign in a bid to get Oldham back to work.
The scheme aims to generate 100 new apprenticeships and 100 new jobs by engaging with 100 new local employers across the borough — all in 100 days.
The project is led by the Get Oldham Working team — 15 different partners all supporting borough residents to get back into employment.
The partnership is also keen to work with local businesses to ensure they are aware of what employment and skills support is available. A series of events, advertisements and marketing campaigns will be run over the 100 days to alert local firms to the latest news.
The TUC has also joined the partnership and is keen to promote the benefits of apprenticeships and work experience to support people back into work.
Councillor Dave Hibbert said: “By providing 100 apprenticeships we are training young people so they have the skills to compete in the jobs market. We will help them take significant steps forward in their search for brighter long-term career and employment prospects.
“There is a wealth of talent across the borough and the arrival of Metrolink will be the most significant economic development here for decades. This will not only drive town-centre regeneration but also create new employment opportunities. It is vital all residents are equipped with the right skills to take advantage.”
