Abusive ex-partner now a ‘changed man’

AN Oldham man who broke into his girlfriend’s home and beat her up while their son was in the house, has been congratulated by a judge for becoming a “changed man.”

Kyle Livesey (23), who had a “volatile and violent” relationship with the boy’s mother, had acted out of frustration and anger because he had been having difficulty getting access to the child.

Livesey, who had pleaded guilty to common assault and breaching a restraining order preventing him going near the address on the Holts estate, was given a 12-month suspended sentence when he appeared at Manchester’s Minshull Street Crown Court in June last year.

He has since breached both the sentence and restraining order again, but when he appeared in court this week he was said to be a changed man.

Louise Brandon, defending, said Livesey, who is now resident in a local hostel, had been complying with all requirements made of him, looking for work and was described as having a positive attitude.

She said: “He hopes to be able to prove that he means what he says, and intends to have no further contact with his former partner. He desperately misses his son, and wants to change his ways so that he can become a role model in the future.”

Giving him a 12-month prison sentence suspended for 18 months, Judge Timothy Mort told him: “You have proved that you can act sensibly. Well done for what you have been doing.”

As a condition of his new sentence, Livesey has been made subject to a restraining order preventing him visiting the area of Greenacres in which his ex-partner lives.
