Don’t miss out on council tax benefit

OLDHAM Council is urging residents to check their eligibility for help with their council tax bill.
People on low incomes could receive help with some or even the entire bill — and many people may still be entitled to council tax benefit even if they work.
The council is stepping up efforts to make people aware of the need to check, as council tax bills are being sent out next week.
Even after receiving the bill, residents can still check to see if they are able to receive the benefit by using the “entitlement calculator” on page 13 of the council tax booklet.
It is believed that many people are entitled to support but don’t realise it, with as many as 5,000 households not claiming their entitlement to council tax benefit in Oldham alone.
If you think you could be entitled to council tax benefit you can:
Call Oldham Benefits Service on 0161-770 6633; visit Access Oldham at the Civic Centre, West Street Oldham, OL1 1UH, or visit www.oldham.gov.uk/eligibility_for_benefits.
