Hundreds celebrate at Mahdlo launch party
Date published: 19 March 2012
OLDHAM’S new £5 million youth zone building has got off to a spectacular start.
The borough’s dignitaries came together on Friday for a celebration launch that included performances from some of the youngsters who will be making full use of the Horsedge Street cenre.
Just over 24 hours later the project got the biggest thumbs up possible from the young people of Oldham when hundreds turned up for the launch party.
With “house full” signs up and staff operating a one-in one-out system on the door, the borough’s youth were treated to live performances and other attractions.
“Feedback from the young people was really positive, they all seem to have had a great time, there is already a few comments on Facebook,” said Mahdlo chief executive Helen Taylor.
“The only real problem of the evening was the level of response — it was far better than we anticipated, the queue was down the road!”
Mahdlo officially opens for business tonight and is expected to cater for hundreds of young people with a myriad of different activities seven evenings a week.
