Lord calls for rethink on axing of eye checks

A SADDLEWORTH councillor is calling on NHS Oldham to reconsider a decision to scrap diabetic eye checks.
Saddleworth Parish Councillor Brian Lord is to ask the primary care trust to restart the checks in Saddleworth.
“The PCT stopped the checks when building work started at the civic hall,” explained. “Everyone assumed they would return once the rebuilding was completed. The PCT has now said it expects Saddleworth people to travel to other areas, rather than being treated in their own area like everyone else.
“The equipment used is portable so surely it is better for the operators to bring it to Saddleworth rather than all of Saddleworth’s diabetics going the other way.”
