WHAT a nightmare: John recovers at home following his toe operation
Star John suffers a - literally - nightmare injury
RUGBY League star winger John Gillam has brought a whole new meaning to the sporting phrase “having a nightmare”...
The Oldham RL man woke to find he had smashed his foot into the door frame in his bedroom - and caused a compound fracture of the big toe on his left foot!
“My Roughyeds team-mates thought it was hilarious,” said 27-year-old Gillam, who was given morphine and rushed to Royal Oldham Hospital for an operation.
John had gone to bed on Saturday night expecting to be playing next day against Gateshead Thunder at Whitebank.
“I have a faint recollection that I might have had a nightmare or a bad dream. Something caused me to hurtle out of bed and to smash my left foot into a door frame,” he admitted.
Surgeons fitted two rods to keep the bone in place. John will be out of action for several weeks.
