Young Oldham musicians are being given extra encouragement this week by Manchester’s Camerata orchestra.
The ensemble has played to 12 Oldham secondary and primary schools to demonstrate some of the skills the youngsters could acquire if they carry on with music studies.
Gerard Booth, director of music at Oldham Music Services, said: “Before the week is out the Camerata will have played to a couple of thousand young players. I think it has been excellent and has been really well received by pupils and teachers.”
The orchestra played at Oldham Academy North, Blue Coat School and Waterhead Academy on Monday; Failsworth, Royton and Crompton and Saddleworth schools on Tuesday; Medlock Valley, Werneth Primary and Crompton House schools yesterday; completing the tour today with performances at Oasis Academy, St Matthew’s Primary School and Newman College.
