A DISGRUNTLED shopper is considering taking legal action against Tesco after the ceiling of a lift collapsed on him.

Carl Ankers had nipped in to the Huddersfield Road store to pick up essentials, but didn’t make it inside.

The 31-year-old dad from Royton said: “The lift suddenly juddered and the whole metal ceiling came crashing down and walloped me on the head.

“It’s a good job it wasn’t a child or an elderly person because it could have done some real damage.”

Carl filled out an incident form at the store after being helped to his feet by staff.

The following day he went to Oldham’s walk-in Intergrated Care centre and was referred to hospital, where it was found he had suffered a head injury and damage to his left eye.

He has already been offered compensation from the supermarket giant, but he turned down the figure.

A Tesco spokesperson said: “This issue is being handled by our solicitors.”
