BAE site set for jobs boost

A MAJOR manufacturing company is eyeing the BAE Systems site at Chadderton for expansion.
Global pump manufacturer NOV Mono Pumps is in talks with Oldham Council about relocating to Greengate.
And with 410 staff already employed at its Audenshaw premises in Tameside, a move would give the potential of more than 1,000 jobs.
The famous aircraft manufacturing operation closed earlier this month.
The council is determined to work with the privately-owned site to encourage investment and new employment opportunities.
Negotiations with Mono have continued for several weeks over possible plans to expand into the Chadderton site — one of three options.
At this stage details of a deal remain commercially sensitive.
Oldham Council leader Jim McMahon said: ““It is vitally important that a firm of NOV Mono Pumps’ international stature remains within the Greater Manchester region.
NOV Mono Pumps is an internationally-renowned firm founded in 1935.
It engineers industry-leading pump ranges, together with other recognised brands for grinders, screens and packaged pumping systems.
Paul Naylon, managing director of NOV Mono Pumps, said: “We have been in positive talks with Oldham Council. Locations for a business of this scale — and one that is potentially looking to expand — are not easy to find.”
