Abuse whistle-blowers wait a month

NEW NSPCC figures show people in Oldham wait at least a month to report child abuse.
A new campaign urges the public not to ignore niggling doubts about a child’s safety.
In the past six months, 30 people from Oldham contacted the charity with concerns about a child. They were among 1,129 people from the North West who made contact.
The figures come as a new Internet campaign, made by “Skins” and “Billy Elliot” director Amanda Boyle, is launched with parents’ website Netmums.
The video will be seen on YouTube, Twitter and Facebook.
Psychologist Dr Linda Papadopoulous said: “The impact of abuse can be profound, and the longer it continues the greater the risk.
“Children are suffering because adults are waiting too long to report their concerns.”
Anyone who has concerns about a child or wants advice can contact the NSPCC for free 24 hours a day, by calling 0808-800 5000.
