YOUNG sporting stars from across Oldham will be among thousands of athletes going head to head at the Greater Manchester School Games from today (Tue).
After the storming success of last year’s pilot event, the games have been split in two this year, with summer and winter games.
Tomorrow’s winter games will be at 2002 Commonwealth Games venues across the region and around 2,000 athletes are expected to take part. The summer games will be held in July.
Flying the flag for Oldham secondaries will be pupils from Hathershaw, Failsworth, North Chadderton, Crompton House, Bluecoat, Failsworth, Royton & Crompton, Newbridge, Hulme Grammar and Radclyffe, who have all qualified through local tournaments.
Nine primary schools will also be represented including Diggle, Mills Hill and Broadfield.
