Sport Relief 2012
Date published: 26 March 2012

YOUNGSTERS took fundraising into their own hands at Beal Vale Primary School in Shaw. Members of the school council arranged a fun-run to provide two African families with fresh water. Juniors sprinted around the school field four times, donating 50p each. Infants clocking up two laps each. More than 180 youngsters took part.
OLDHAM was alive with the sound of Sport Relief activity on Friday — helping to push the national effort to a record £50million hoard for good causes.
Thousands, from all corners of the borough, did their bit by donning zany costumes or finding inventive cash-raising schemes to ensure less well-off get the help they need.
Nationally, Sport Relief raised a record on–the–night total of £50,447,197 - a massive £21 million more than last year. The Government is to give £10 million to boost the fund further.
Our coverage of this year’s local Sport relief effort is in a four-page picture special in tonight’s print and e-Chron editions.
