Date published: 26 March 2012
A fire in a computer room at Ferranti Cairo Mill, Waterhead, forced an emergency evacuation on Friday.
The blaze started during the installation of a new power supply at HSB Engineering Insurance Ltd, triggering an inert gas extinguisher system.
More than 100 workers were evacuated. Fire crews from Oldham and Chadderton raced to the mill in Greenacres Road at around 11.36am to co-ordinate the evacuation and use extinguishers to tackle the blaze, which destroyed two £7,000 servers.
