OLDHAM Council has been praised by Government departments and charities for its services for elderly people.
Councillor Phil Harrison — who has helped spearhead the “Ageing Well” scheme, will give a presentation to representatives from the Department of Health, Department for Work and Pensions, Age Concern and the Local Government Association tomorrow, at a meeting to discuss best practice.
Services in the programme include the Friends and Neighbours scheme which is helping ensure that residents with limited mobility get out and about in the community, and the Forum4AGE, which enables the elderly to discuss their concerns with a collective voice.
