Unveiled, the £22.5m future of Royton

A STRIKING new view of Royton centre has been unveiled, revealing the true extent of the district’s £22.5 million regeneration scheme.

Residents came out in droves to see the detailed plans at a consultation day hosted by developers Dransfield Properties Ltd.

The plans met with a generally favourable response from visitors, though suggest some changes may need to be made before plans are finalised

Artist impressions showed an almost unrecognisable new centre that will accommodate a 50,000 sq ft food store as well as a two-storey precinct and parking for more than 300 cars.

A new petrol station is also planned for the sprawling site that developers hope will breathe new life into Royton.

The new food store will be built where the doomed Royton Assembly Hall currently stands.

The radical revamp will also see the disappearance of the Duke of Edinburgh pub, the Albion Club, Sparkles Adventure Play and the medical centre to make way for 177 more parking spaces than are currently on offer, totalling 343.

Once the plans have been finalised, a planning application is expected to be submitted to Oldham Council within months.
