Sex-trial boy sobs giving evidence

Date published: 28 March 2012

A YOUNG boy who claims a teacher sexually touched him in the classroom broke down sobbing as he gave evidence to a trial jury.

The youngster — one of seven who have made similar allegations against 25-year old Neil Carr — was being cross-examined over a live video link at Manchester’s Minshull Street Crown Court when he put his head in his hands and wept.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, alleges that the teacher touched him sexually five or six times. He said on each occasion it had been after he put his hand up to ask for assistance with his school work.

Carr pleads not guilty to 20 separate offences of sexual activity with a child.

Marsha Myers, defending, had earlier suggested the boy had heard “silly” talk about the teacher being gay, had gone along with stories he had heard from others.

The boy told the court however: “I’m not making it up. Why would I talk to the police otherwise?”

Carr has insisted his innocence throughout.
