KNOCK off: the haul of dodgy DVDS
A FAILSWORTH man has been convicted for possessing more than 10,000 counterfeit discs containing the latest film, music and computer game releases worth £30,000.
Oldham Council successfully prosecuted market trader Bernard Bolger (60), of Wellington Street, for selling the fake copies of discs, including “Iron Man 2”, “Robin Hood” and “Shutter Island”.
Following a tip-off Trading Standards staff and Greater Manchester Police found the haul at a unit on Phoenix Industrial Estate, in Failsworth.
Bolger, who operated the unit, pleaded guilty at Minshull Street Crown Court, Manchester, to seven specimen Trade Marks Act offences which related to having counterfeit material in his possession.
He was sentenced to four months’ imprisonment, suspended for 12 months and ordered to pay £1,800 towards prosecution costs.
