OPEN road: the new stretch of Huddersfield Road looking towards the end of Oldham Way bypass
A NEWLY laid stretch of Huddersfield Road is now open for motorists heading away from Oldham Town Centre as work to bring Metrolink to the borough continues.
The right turn from Oldham Way up Lees Road is now closed — traffic for Lees is now routed up Huddersfield Road and right at Cross Street.
Traffic on Huddersfield Road heading toward the town now turns left intoCross Street and right into Lees Road for Oldham Way,
New tram track now crossesd Huddersfield Road in preparation for Metrolink’s arrival.
In April, King Street will be closed for around eight weeks to the north of its Union Street junction to construct tram tracks.
Waterloo Street will also be shut for around 13 weeks at the Union Street junction.
Construction will begin on the Oldham Central Metrolink stop in mid-June, signalling the permanent closure of Union Street to traffic between Peter Street and Clegg Street — after completion it will be pedestrian only
