Action call over litter in streets
Date published: 03 April 2012
ALL IN A DAY...
A GIANT mountain of trash was collected by Oldham Council’s Street Scene team during a successful day of action.
District teams swept, cleaned and bagged-up rubbish from across the borough, collecting an estimated 250,000 pieces of litter.
They were joined by council staff as part of the Love Where You Live campaign and in total picked up 600 bags of waste — on top of their daily duties.
The council believes only a small minority of people are responsible for the problem — at the expense of others.
Councillor Jean Stretton, cabinet member for neighbourhoods, said “Local residents are generally very proud of where they live and there is a lot of community pride in some areas.”
