Catherine shows fighting spirit
Date published: 03 April 2012
YOUNG Catherine Stott has had to deal with more than most in her life.
But the 12-year-old’s enthusiasm, dedication and zest for life will see her get her hands on the golden torch — a moment that will make her family beam with pride.
Sports are a way of life for the energetic Year 7 pupil at Saddleworth School, no mean feat given she battles cerebral palsy.
The condition impacts on her lower limbs, affecting her balance and hindering her ability to walk.
Yet rather than give in, Catherine has become a shining star, indulging in after-school badminton classes, swimming for the advanced training team in Oldham and taking part in weekly wheelchair racing at the Manchester Stadium.
The busy young star, who is also a girl guide and does weekly drama sessions, was nominated by staff at Saddleworth School.
She will carry the torch through Huddersfield on Sunday, June 24.
