Healthy honour for Debbie
Date published: 03 April 2012
OLDHAM MP Debbie Abrahams has been awarded a Fellowship by the Faculty of Public Health.
The Oldham East and Saddleworth MP was granted the honour for her work in addressing health inequalities.
The Faculty of Public Health (FPH) — the standard-setting body for consultants in public health — has a round of proposals every year in which current Fellows of the Faculty are invited to nominate non-members for Fellowship through distinction. This is based on their significant contribution to the science, literature or practice of public health.
Professor Lindsey Davies, President of FPH, said: “This Fellowship through distinction is being awarded to Debbie for her tireless work addressing the health inequalities in Knowsley where she was the head of Health For All from 1992 to 2000, dedicating herself to the development of methods of health impact assessment and her continued passion for public health issues while in Parliament.”
Grateful
The Labour MP said: “I feel honoured to have been awarded this fellowship by my former colleagues.”
