£360 cost of fly-tipping

DUMPED waste at a beauty spot has cost a Shaw man £360.
Oldham Council successfully prosecuted Muminul Haque, of Eastway, for tipping household waste at Jubilee Nature Reserve, Milnrow Road, Shaw.
Environmental Health Officers discovered carpets, furniture, doors and decorating materials at the nature reserve on August 1, last year. Evidence found at the scene was traced to Haque’s address.
The 43-year-old admitted passing on waste from his house refurbishment to an unknown man for £150 without taking any measures to prevent the waste being tipped and failing to ensure he was a licensed waste carrier.
Haque gave officers a telephone number of the man who had disposed of the rubbish but he could not be traced. Haque recently appeared at Oldham Magistrates’ Court and pleaded guilty to a failure of care under the Environmental Protection Act.
He was fined £95 and ordered to pay costs of £250 with a victim surcharge of £15.
Elaine McLean, Oldham Council’s executive director for economy, places and skills, said: “If you are paying someone to dispose of your waste you must check they are a reputable trader and have the correct licence.”
