Youth candidates are counted in
Date published: 05 April 2012
THE votes have been cast and the results are now in as to who will represent Oldham’s youth.
This year’s Oldham Youth Council Elections saw 8,584 votes cast — 27 per cent of the voting population who cast their votes.
It was a whopping 500 per cent increase in voter turnout from the 2010 election.
There were 42 out of 115 candidates elected who will now take their place as youth councillors, officially starting the job on April 17.
All those candidates who were not successful in being elected on to the youth council will have the opportunity to become members of the District Youth Forums — facilitated by integrated youth services.
These enable young people to take an active role in district-level decision-making processes.
The results saw seven new youth councillors chosen in each of the six districts.
