Worst over as Huddersfield Road reopens
Date published: 10 April 2012
MUMPS roundabout is now converted into a road junction, providing motorists with the layout for when trams come through Oldham.
Changes to the highway to pave the way for Metrolink have been under way since the middle of March and have involved closing Huddersfield Road at its junction with the former roundabout. Huddersfield Road is now open in both directions, with traffic flowing from Lees Road on to Oldham Way having to give way to join the bypass. Plans show that the junction will eventually be controlled by traffic lights.
Though more work will be required, the completed phase is likely to have been the most disruptive element of delivering the new traffic-and-tram highway plan for Mumps.
