1,517 fewer victims of crime

LATEST figures show crime in Oldham has fallen by eight per cent — meaning there have been 1,517 fewer victims than in 2010.

The figures — for the year to March 31 - show:

::Domestic burglary down 18 per cent with 291 fewer victims.

::Vehicle crime down with by 21 per cent with 434 fewer victims.

::Anti-social behaviour reduced by eight per cent with 1,095 fewer incidents.

::Serious violent crime down by 24 per cent with 41 fewer victims.

The one black spot was robbery, which has increased by 7.6 per cent, equating to 24 more incidents.

The latest neighbourhood policing surveys also suggest police in Oldham are reducing the fear of crime.

Out of the 1,700 people interviewed across the borough since April 1, 2011, 86 per cent think the police do a good or excellent job, a six per cent improvement.

Chief Supt Tim Forber, Oldham Divisional Commander, said: “Thanks to the hard work of my staff and our partners we have been able to build on last year’s success and make the area an even more hostile place for criminals to operate.”
