Ella White and her winning torch
THE countdown to the London 2012 Olympics is on . . . and youngsters in Oldham are bursting with pride!
With 100 days to go until the opening ceremony, local children have been making their own colourful torches.
A staggering 800 entries came flooding in for a competition that challenged local pupils to come up with a design for an Oldham Olympic Torch.
And their brilliant designs made it tough for judges with the Schools Sports Partnerships and Gallery Oldham to pick a winner.
Nine-year-old Ella White, from Woodhouse Voluntary Primary School, claimed gold — and got to see her torch become a reality.
Silver winner Muneem Siddique, from Bare Trees School, also saw his design become a colourful plaque sporting the famous Olympic rings and fiery red flames.
Cameron Crossley, from Kingsland School, took bronze.
