Jobs under threat as Renault garage shuts

JOB losses are expected after a driving force in Oldham’s car trade pulled out of town.
Renault’s 21-year presence in Oldham ended as the company shut its Manchester Road garage and showroom, which employed 16 people - to merge with Manchester Renault in Salford.
Renault Retail Group managing director Stuart Walker said redundancies were inevitable, but Jim Schofield, dealer principal at Renault Manchester, said it was hoped up to 75 per cent of staff would be retained.
RRG managing director Stuart Walker blamed the closure on tough trading conditions and was part of the company’s restructuring programme, announced in December.
