LONG-AWAITED plans to build new homes in Derker could be realised as early as September, it has been revealed.
The landmark scheme could see the creation of around 150 homes between London Road and Derker Street, putting an end to years of uncertainty about the area.
The news came last night when Councillor Dave Hibbert, Cabinet member for housing, confirmed the details of the plans will be announced next month.
Once a tender is agreed, work could start in September and the first ohase completed by December, 2013.
Around 110 homes would be built for private sale, funded by the developer. Another 42 homes would be funded by a £4.2million grant from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) to the council’s partner Guinness Northern Counties (GNC).
Councillor Hibbert was prompted to announce the details after several residents submitted questions demanding information.
