Ena Astin: 106th birthday.
A great-great grandmother who loves nothing more than a read of her favourite newspaper - the Chron - celebrates her 106th birthday this weekend.
Ena Astin, who lived in Glodwick for 83 years, is being thrown a celebration tea party by family and friends on Sunday at Newfield Lodge Rest Home in Lytham St Anne’s, where she now lives.
She puts her long life down to her love of whisky!
Formerly of Mansfield Road, Ena used to attend St Mark’s Church in Glodwick, where she met and fell in love with her late husband, Alfred. They had four children, Dilys, Joan, the late Freda and the late Arnold.
Ena’s daughter, Dilys, still lives in the Oldham area and takes a copy of the Chronicle whenever she visits her mum.
Joan said: “Mum loves to read the Chronicle, usually with a lovely smile on her face.”
