Boxing club proves a hit after cash windfall

Oldham Boxing and Personal Development Centre in Derker has been given almost £4,000 by First Choice Homes. The money will provide boxing sessions and other activities every Friday.
As well as boxing. youngsters will be able to keep fit with weights, use computers, write and listen to music.
The grant was from the housing association’s Respect Our Community Awards (ROCA), designed to boost community projects.
Eric Noi, Director of Oldham Boxing, recognised the need for somewhere other than the streets for local young people to hang out on a Friday night.
He said: “The gym is well known to those whose brothers and sisters train here, so it seemed a natural progression to open our doors once the training sessions ended.”
The Friday night sessions will run from 6pm-8pm until the summer holidays.
