Beaten, run over: man’s robbery ordeal

Date published: 25 April 2012

AN Oldham man suffered a broken leg after being deliberately run over during a robbery.

The 62-year-old was repeatedly punched outside his house by two thugs who stole his car keys before driving into him in another vehicle.

The brutal attack happened in Medlock Road, Woodhouses on Friday evening, police have revealed.

The victim had pulled up on his driveway, noticing a small red hatchback parked outside his home.

Two men wearing dark-coloured jumpsuits and balaclavas then dragged him to the floor, punched him and struck him with a shiny black metal object.

They demanded his car keys but didn’t take the car — instead they got back in their own car and deliberately drove at the victim as they sped off.

The victim was treated in hospital for a broken left leg and cuts and bruises to his face and head.

The red car — a stolen Seat Altea, SC05 LHU - was later found abandoned in Peakdale Road, Droylsden.

Police are now appealing to anyone with information to come forward.

Det Cons Mike Hayman of Oldham CID said: “In the space of a few minutes this man suffered a savage beating and was then deliberately run over. The people who committed this atrocious act of violence need to be caught. Cars are just as dangerous a weapon as a knife or a firearm.

“I particularly want to hear from anyone who either witnessed the robbery or saw the red Seat being driven erratically or at high speed or who saw it being abandoned in the Droylsden area.”
