Safety plea on danger road

WORRIED parents are demanding urgent action to boost safety on a busy road near two schools.
A petition was launched by Rachel Beckwith, whose daughter Holly is a pupil at Knowsley Junior School, Springhead, late last year after a classmate was hit by a car on Cooper Street.
A petition has since raised more than 200 signatures from parents, children, staff and residents
Jane Goodwin, head teacher at Knowsley, said: “Cooper Street is home to Knowsley and Springhead schools. There are up to 700 young children crossing twice a day.
“Every day we see drivers reaching frighteningly high speeds. It’s very scary.
“We are trying to encourage more of our children to walk to school as this will cut congestion. The petition calls for a 20mph zone around both schools.”
Malcolm Milwain, chairman of governors at Springhead Infant and Nursery School, added: “We support the petition started by parents at Knowsley and we share their concerns.
