Pupil with broken foot sent home for breaking school uniform rule
A PUPIL with a broken foot was sent home from school because she wasn’t wearing the correct shoes.
And Alisha Forrester’s mother claims teachers also told her to buy differently sized shoes.
Alisha, in Year 10 at Waterhead Academy, broke a bone when she slipped and fell down the stairs at home.
Despite trying six different black shoes, the only thing she could get on her foot was a training shoe.
When she arrived at school and attempted to show teachers her badly-bruised foot, they sent her home for not wearing proper uniform.
Alisha’s mum, Angie, of Scafell Close, said she was outraged that her daughter was sent home despite having a genuine reason for wearing the trainers.
She claims teachers told her to buy a size five and a size seven shoe, so the larger one would be more comfortable on the bruised foot.
Miss Forrester said: “This is a very important year for her, they shouldn’t be messing about with her education.
Over 90 pupils were excluded from school on the first day for wearing incorrect uniform.
A Waterhead Academy spokeswoman said: “A student attended wearing brightly-coloured trainers instead of her regulation school shoes.
“The academy contacted a parent to explain she may wear plain black pumps. The academy offered to cover the cost of plain black school pumps.”
