A COUPLE who had their dream wedding anniversary ruined by salmonella have won their fight against the tour operator.
Phillip and Georgina Rowe, of Clarksfield, won a four-figure settlement from Balkan Holidays, after Georgina fell so ill at the 4+ star Aphrodite Golden Sands Hotel in Bulgaria she was put on a drip.
The 40-year-old was confined to the room for two weeks.
The couple booked the £1,200 trip for August, 2010. Georgina said: “We were hoping for nice food and a lovely room — it didn’t happen that way.”
She added: “When we had our first meal, we thought something didn’t taste quite right.
“Later we went to the pool. It looked like a bathroom that hadn’t been cleaned for months.”
Georgina woke next day with sickness, diarrhoea and vomiting. A doctor diagnosed salmonella, prescribed antibiotics and, in a drastic step, put her on a drip.
“I couldn’t even leave my room,” Georgina said.
It wasn’t until two days before the end of the holiday that Georgina felt well enough to leave the bedroom — a stone lighter.
On their return home they hired a solicitor and after a lengthy battle the couple, expecting their second child in June, were last week rewarded with the settlement.
