The Chadderton-born celebrity professor, who first shot to fame in the band D:Ream, will receive an honorary doctorate in July.
The former Hulme Grammar School pupil is one of the best-known scientists in Britain and has presented several BBC TV shows including “Wonders of the Universe” and “Stargazing Live”.
Professor Cox (44) has a PhD in high energy particle physics and currently works at the large hadron collider at CERN in Geneva.
The honorary doctorate will be presented at UCO’s graduation ceremony on July 26 at The Queen Elizabeth Hall.
Campus head Debbie Bridge said: “We are very pleased that Brian has accepted this award and we are looking forward to welcoming him to the ceremony the day.”
