Spending boost for road safety

OLDHAM Council is streets ahead when it comes to road safety spending.
Bucking the national trend of slashing road safety education and traffic management budgets, the borough is one of only a handful in England to increase funding.
In 2010-11 the local authority spent £565,000, increasing it by 40 per cent in 2011-12 to £792,000.
Elaine McLean, Oldham Council’s executive director for economy, places and skills, said: “Oldham Council is committed to protecting road safety spending and has been successful in bidding for additional monies from central government to support the excellent work of the road safety team.
