Plans for lodge retreat
HOLIDAYS in luxury log cabins could soon be a big draw for visitors to Saddleworth.
Developers are seeking permission to transform overgrown Green Belt land at Nut Bottom, close to Dovesztone reservoir, into a secluded holiday retreat with plush cabins and pitches for caravans and tents.
The site has several old buildings on it, which wuld be cleared.
The 10 lodges would have kitchens, living rooms and bathrooms and double and twin bedrooms.
There would also be a shower and toilet block, disabled facilities and a shop and office on the site, which borders a small millpond.
Property manager John Taylor, who as part of Purico Ltd manages the land on behalf of owners Hollow Oak Ltd, says the response from Oldham Council has been positive.
He said: “At the moment there are not many facilities in the area, but similar schemes have been implemented very successfully. The site itself is very sheltered both in terms of the weather and visibility, because we have to respect the importance of the Green Belt.”
Saddleworth Parish Council this week debated the application, with councillors both for and against the proposals.
They voted to recommend that Oldham Council approves the plans.
