MYSTERY surrounds the deaths of a man and an elderly woman whose bodies were found in a flat in Coldhurst.
Police believe the two died days apart.
Emergency services were called to the Eden Street estate at around 12.30pm on Friday by concerned family members who had not had contact with the 59-year-old man for some days.
Paramedics forced their way into the top-floor flat and found the body of the man and a 69-year-old woman, believed to have been a close friend who lived nearby.
The Chronicle understands the man, found in the bedroom, may have been dead for up to a week.
But it is thought the woman had died within 24 hours of paramedics discovering her in the kitchen.
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said the deaths weren’t being treated as suspicion.
Shocked neighbours said they thought the man had looked out for the woman following the death of her husband.
