Blaze goes on at warehouse
Date published: 15 May 2012
FIRE-FIGHTERS remained in Higginshaw yesterday to tackle a deep-seated fire at a plastics storage warehouse.
Around 20 crew members from Oldham, Broughton and Gorton continued to tackle the blaze at the Meek Street warehouse following the blaze on Saturday.
Station manager Ian Tracey said: “The plastic meant there were lots of pockets of fire and although we had the blaze suppressed and under control over the weekend it could be a day or so yet that we will remain at the scene to check that the fire is out completely.”
The 40m x 80m warehouse, said to be tightly packed with carpets, vinyl and foam, was destroyed.
An investigation has since been launched; arson is suspected.
