Muslim community ‘appalled’ by vile acts
Date published: 18 May 2012
OLDHAM Mosques Council (OMC) is to organise a conference to help protect vulnerable girls falling prey to sex grooming gangs.
But while the group will be urging mosques to raise awareness of the dangers, it says the evil acts were not driven by race or religion and is concerned the crimes are being turned into a race issue.
A spokesman said: “OMC strongly condemns the perpetrators who have exploited and abused some of the most vulnerable young girls in our society. These inhumane acts have sent shockwaves through all communities.
“Our deepest thoughts and sympathies go out to the victims and their families. Perpetrators such as these, who have shown no sign of remorse, have brought shame to their families and communities.
“The Muslim community is appalled by these vile acts: there is no place for this in Islam, the Pakistani culture or the wider community.
“These acts are of evil nature through and through. OMC will be sending a strong message to all the mosques in Oldham to raise awareness of this issue and ask members of the community to work with the relevant agencies should they become aware of similar behaviour.”
