While most six-year-old girls would be content playing with their dolls, one talented youngster from Glodwick has set her sights on something slightly more challenging.
Alishba Shamraiz Saeed wrote a short story to enter into the national Young Writers competition. Her story impressed judges so much that her tale will now appear in “My First Story — Young Writers Book”, due to be released on June 30.
Alishba, a pupil at Grafton House School, Ashton, wrote her story about a zoo, using storyboards that had pictures printed on them. She then had to look at the pictures and write the story they depicted in her own words.
She’s now looking forward to receiving a copy of the book, which has been made out of the best stories selected from thousands of entries. It will be made available in shops across Lancashire, and libraries across the UK and Republic of Ireland.
Alishba’s mum, Ali, said: “The whole family are really proud of her and really happy for her too. She’s really into reading, she’s always got a book with her. This shows she’s really into her writing too.”
