John's role in history of Housing Units
Date published: 25 May 2012
THE founder of Housing Units has offered Oldhamers a fascinating insight into his life with the publication of his autobiography.
"The Edge of Time" by John Pellowe charts events from pre-war Oldham to present day.
John tells how a small inherited shop went on to become one of the most successful retail stores in Britain.
Housing Units had a turnover of around £165 in its first week of trading in 1959, but this had increased to more than £20 million when John retired as managing director in 2000.
Proceeds from sales of the book, which costs £15, will be credited to the JHP Charity Fund which raises money for the Salvation Army and Medicins Sans Frontieres.
John will host a signing session at Saddleworth Museum on Saturday, June 9, from 10am-4pm.
