Child protection cuts fear

AN MP is demanding answers from the Government that police cuts will not impact on vital work to protect vulnerable children following the horrific sex trafficking of young girls which saw two Oldham men jailed.
Oldham East and Saddleworth MP Debbie Abrahams told Home Secretary Theresa May the crimes of the nine Oldham and Rochdale men convicted of the appalling sexual exploitation of vulnerable and young children have been condemned throughout the community.
But she feared police cuts could impact on good work being carried out in Oldham to protect young people.
Speaking in the Commons she said: "What is the Home Secretary doing to ensure that such vital work does not suffer under the police cuts?"
Mrs May said: "We have made sure that in the Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2011 there is a specific duty on police forces and on police and crime commissioners in relation to the care of children."
