AN ultimate guide to climbing the craggs over Saddleworth has been launched to entice daredevils into the area.
The book, masterminded and researched by volunteer members of the British Mountaineering Council, acts as a one-stop-shop for those wanting to get out in the fresh air and put their body to the test high above the borough.
Diggle climbing enthusiast Ian Carr has had a hand in producing the detailed guide that features several routes over Wimberry Rock and Indian’s Head.
The illustrated book covers the Chew Valley and provides detailed routes based on decades of experience.
Ian (51) took up the hobby as a teenager as part of his Duke of Edinburgh award and has since travelled the globe to scout out new thrills.
But there’s nothing like his own back yard. He said: “As far as the technical aspects go, parts of the Chew Valley are as hard as anything in the world. The fact they’re not as high doesn’t mean they should be overlooked.”
The book will be on sale at most local climbing stores as well as direct from the British Mountaineering Council website www.thebmc.co.uk
